Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Encourages Chinese Construction Firm to Expand Investment
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol encouraged China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to expand its investment opportunities in Cambodia, particularly in high-value sectors that can boost economic growth and create jobs.
During a working visit to Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), Sun Chanthol, met with the senior management of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The meeting took place on the afternoon of June 29, 2026 (local time). Wang Xiangdong, Chairman of CCECC, expressed his deep respect and gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works and Transport for the opportunity to meet and discuss business. He provided a brief overview of CCECC's background and specialized capabilities, highlighting its status as a large state-owned enterprise from China with extensive expertise and experience in developing major infrastructure projects worldwide. These projects include the construction of bridges, roads, railways, airports, and industrial park zones. Regarding investment in Cambodia, Wang Xiangdong reported on the progress of development projects related to the modernization of the transportation system, in which the company is actively collaborating with the Cambodian side. He noted that a feasibility study is nearing completion. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol welcomed CCECC's commitment to contributing to Cambodia's physical infrastructure development. He emphasized that the Cambodian side is awaiting the results of the feasibility study, which will be submitted soon, for evaluation before proceeding to the next steps. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged and urged CCECC to continue exploring opportunities to expand its investments further in the Kingdom of Cambodia. He specifically called for investment in key priority sectors that offer high added value, aiming to enhance the economy and create employment for the Cambodian people, in line with the government's "Pentagonal Strategy."
