Bangkok Police Rescue Blind Mother from Abusive Drug-Addicted Son

In a harrowing case of domestic abuse, a partially blind 57-year-old mother in Bangkok, identified as Chanphen, has been rescued after months of enduring violent extortion from her 27-year-old son, Poramet. Chanphen, who works long hours at a gas station for 390 baht a day, was allegedly subjected to daily demands of at least 300 baht by her son. Failure to comply resulted in severe physical assault. The situation escalated to the point where her son stole her savings intended for vital eye surgery, leading to the complete loss of vision in her right eye. Previous attempts by authorities to intervene had been unsuccessful, as Poramet reportedly relapsed into drug use after leaving a rehabilitation center and even manipulated drug tests. On the morning of September 7, police and rescue workers responded to the mother's plea for help. While en route, Poramet reportedly made violent threats to Chanphen over the phone. Upon arrival at the residence, officers observed Poramet pacing outside the front door with a large knife concealed in his waistband, prompting immediate action to apprehend him safely. A search of the house uncovered significant evidence of drug use, including drug pipes, marijuana, and ecstasy, along with two wooden batons, indicating the dangerous environment Chanphen lived in. Confronted with the evidence, Poramet admitted to assaulting his mother, attributing his actions to a belief that she did not care for him. He later offered a tearful apology. Poramet was taken into custody for questioning and drug testing, facing serious charges for assault and illegal drug use. Police noted that Chanphen may pursue additional charges for the threats made. The successful intervention has brought Chanphen to safety, and the community hopes for her recovery and peace.
