Hung Yen Student Reaches 'Road to Olympia' Grand Finale

Nguyen Huy Quang Minh, a student from Thai Binh High School for the Gifted in Hung Yen province, has won the third quarter final of the popular Vietnamese quiz show 'Road to Olympia,' securing his spot in the program's grand finale. This marks the first time a student from his school has reached this stage. The quarter-final, broadcast on July 26, featured four contestants: Nguyen Duc Minh from Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary-High School in Hanoi, Le Nguyen Nam Son from Son Tay High School for the Gifted in Hanoi, Nguyen Huy Quang Minh from Thai Binh High School for the Gifted in Hung Yen, and Huynh Le Ngoc My from Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted in Da Nang. In the 'Khoi dong' (Warm-up) round, contestants answered individual questions (6 questions) and shared questions (15 questions) covering natural sciences, social sciences, culture-sports-arts, and current events. Each correct answer was worth 10 points. Quang Minh impressed early by answering 5 out of 6 individual questions correctly, earning 50 points. Ngoc My scored 40 points, while Duc Minh and Nam Son both had 20 points. The 'Chung' (Shared) round involved a buzzer system. Correct answers added 10 points, while incorrect ones deducted 5. Nam Son pressed the buzzer five times but only gained 5 points. Ngoc My and Quang Minh each earned an additional 20 points. Duc Minh buzzed once but answered incorrectly, losing 5 points. At the end of this round, Quang Minh led with 65 points, followed by Ngoc My (50), Nam Son (25), and Duc Minh (15). In the 'Vuot chuong ngai vat' (Overcoming Obstacles) round, contestants had to find a keyword using four horizontal clues and image hints. After the final horizontal clue was read, Ngoc My and Duc Minh secured the right to answer. My correctly guessed the keyword 'Thanh nien xung phong' (Youth Volunteers), reaching 100 points and taking the lead. Quang Minh had 75 points, while Duc Minh and Nam Son had 35 points each. The 'Tang toc' (Accelerate) round featured four questions, with points ranging from 40 to 10 based on accuracy and speed. This round saw a dynamic shift in standings. Duc Minh and Quang Minh answered the first question correctly, earning 40 and 30 points respectively. Quang Minh then led with 105 points, just 5 ahead of My. In the second question, all four answered correctly, with Nam Son gaining 40 points, My 30, and Quang Minh and Duc Minh adding 20 and 10 points respectively. My regained the lead with 130 points, 5 points ahead of Quang Minh. The third question about geometry saw no points awarded. In the final question about historical figure Huynh Thuc Khang, Quang Minh answered fastest, adding 40 points to reclaim the lead with 165 points. In the final 'Ve dich' (Reaching the Finish) round, Quang Minh finished with 205 points. Ngoc My lost points to Quang Minh on a chemistry question and ultimately scored 100 points. Nam Son finished with 85 points, and Duc Minh with 185 points. Quang Minh's winning score of 225 points secured his place in the 26th 'Road to Olympia' grand finale, alongside Thai Duong from Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted in Phu Tho province and Gia Bao from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Khanh Hoa province.
