Vietnamese PM Meets Indian PM, Seeks to Strengthen Ties at BRICS Summit

Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the morning of September 12 (local time) during his attendance at the 18th BRICS Summit in 2026. This meeting served as an opportunity to further develop bilateral relations between Vietnam and India, amidst discussions about Vietnam's potential participation in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) framework as an observer. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to pursue economic growth while aiming for balanced foreign policy in its relations with China, which is expanding its regional influence. Strengthening ties with India is seen as part of this diplomatic strategy, with the aim of diversifying economic and strategic partnerships.
