Vietnam's tourism industry is accelerating growth and quality enhancement, with a focus on attracting international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) events, especially in preparation for APEC 2027. Phu Quoc Island is emerging as a key growth driver, benefiting from infrastructure development and the utilization of diverse tourism resources.
Vietnam's tourism industry is accelerating its growth and quality enhancement, with a particular focus on attracting international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) events, in preparation for hosting APEC 2027. This strategic push aligns with the goals outlined in Politburo Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW and Government Resolution No. 263/NQ-CP, which aim to develop tourism into a key economic sector. Phu Quoc Island, located in the south, is entering a new growth cycle, bolstered by the development of DT975, a major corridor connecting the island's international airport with the APEC Convention Centre. The island is increasingly recognized as a prime seaside destination for travelers from Asia to Europe, with Sunset Town highlighted as a significant venue for international events. The promotion of MICE tourism is intended to transform Phu Quoc from a largely seasonal resort destination into a year-round tourism hub, aiming to increase per-visitor spending and attract more corporate groups and international professionals. Leveraging its abundant natural resources, traditional medicine, and diverse ethnic cultures, Vietnam is also developing competitive wellness tourism products. The country targets 25-27 million international visitors and 150-153 million domestic tourists in 2026, with total revenue projected to reach VND 1.12-1.23 quadrillion (approximately USD 47.34 billion). Da Nang city is also attracting both leisure and active travelers by offering diverse experiences that combine relaxation by My Khe Beach, nature exploration, local cuisine, and cultural and entertainment destinations. The city aims to welcome nearly 93,000 MICE visitors in 2026, up about 12% year-on-year, by strengthening links with corporations and event organizers and diversifying promotional activities. Cooperation between Vietnam and the United States is also advancing, with three strategic pillars in payments, hospitality, and aviation moving closer to tangible projects. This collaboration is expected to introduce more premium hospitality brands to Vietnam, expand the horizons for MICE tourism, and elevate international destinations. In line with Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW, Vietnam plans to develop Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang as major tourism growth poles, while gradually turning Phu Quoc into a new growth pole. The strategy also calls for the development of 10 key tourism centers and 20 national tourism areas. Source: VietnamPlus English
