Prabowo Signs Decree Establishing Seven New District Attorney Offices

President Prabowo Subianto has issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 40 of 2026 concerning the establishment of seven new district attorney offices (Kejari) to enhance legal services in regional areas and strengthen the prosecutorial functions of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia. According to a copy of the document accessed through the official JDIH website of the Ministry of State Secretariat, Article 1, Paragraph 1, states that the seven Kejari to be established include: * Kejari Pangandaran in Pangandaran Regency, West Java * Kejari Kabupaten Serang in Serang Regency, Banten * Kejari Tana Tidung in Tana Tidung Regency, North Kalimantan * Kejari Kubu Raya in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan * Kejari Lima Puluh Kota in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra * Kejari Raja Ampat in Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua * Kejari Pesisir Barat in Pesisir Barat Regency, Lampung Article 1, Paragraph 2, specifies the locations of these offices: Kejari Pangandaran will be based in Parigi, Kejari Kabupaten Serang in Ciruas, Kejari Tana Tidung in Tideng Pale, Kejari Kubu Raya in Sungai Raya, Kejari Lima Puluh Kota in Harau, Kejari Raja Ampat in Waisai, and Kejari Pesisir Barat in Krui. The regulation also states that the operation of the seven new Kejari will be carried out in stages. Article 3 clarifies that their duties, functions, authorities, organizational structure, and work procedures will be determined by the Attorney General after obtaining approval from the minister responsible for state apparatus affairs. Furthermore, Article 4 states that local governments in the seven regencies may provide land as needed for the construction of the Kejari buildings. Article 5 stipulates that the funding for the establishment, development, and execution of the duties, functions, and authorities of the new Kejari will be sourced from the budget of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Indonesia. Meanwhile, Article 6 explains that until the new district attorneys are appointed, the handling of criminal and other cases will continue to be executed by the existing district attorney offices that have jurisdiction over these regions. This provision applies to the regions of Pangandaran, Serang Regency, Tana Tidung, Kubu Raya, Lima Puluh Kota, Raja Ampat, and Pesisir Barat in accordance with the arrangements in the Perpres. The Presidential Regulation Number 40 of 2026 was signed by President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on July 2, 2026, and became effective on the date of its promulgation. The regulation was promulgated on the same day by the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia in 2026, Number 76.
