Cyber Police Investigate Leak of Thai PM and Cabinet Officials' Personal Data

Cyber police in Thailand have established a special investigation team to probe the online leak of personal data belonging to the prime minister, cabinet ministers, and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior. Preliminary findings suggest the leaked information originated from systems operated by the Department of Land Transport and the Department of Provincial Administration. On August 5, Lt. Gen. Surapol Prembut, Commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), said the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society formally filed a complaint on August 4, requesting cyber police investigate the online disclosure of senior government officials’ personal information and bring those responsible to justice. A dedicated task force has been established, led by Maj. Gen. Thinakorn Rangmat, Deputy Commissioner of the CCIB. Preliminary findings indicate the leaked data is linked to systems belonging to the Department of Land Transport and the Department of Provincial Administration. Investigators will question relevant officials and IT administrators from both agencies, examine system access records and trace the source of the breach to determine its cause and pursue legal action against those responsible. This incident highlights potential vulnerabilities in Thailand's cybersecurity infrastructure and raises concerns regarding the protection of sensitive government and personal data. Authorities are under pressure to conduct a thorough investigation and implement measures to prevent future breaches.
