The perpetrator, identified as ST, 47, a factory worker who divorced the victim's mother in 2012, allegedly committed the acts between 2025 and April 2026. According to Kombes Pol Ganis Setyaningrum, Director of the Women and Children Services and Human Trafficking Directorate of the East Java Regional Police, ST continued to visit his ex-wife's home almost weekly after their divorce. The sexual assaults, including intercourse and indecent acts, occurred at the residence in Sukolilo District, Surabaya. During some of the assaults, the victim's mother was present but asleep, while at other times she was not home. The crime came to light in March 2026 when the victim complained of stomach pain and persistent nausea. Her mother took her to a health center, and a specialist gynecologist confirmed her four-month pregnancy on April 17, 2026. The victim had not menstruated since February 2026 and eventually confessed to her mother. Following the report, ST was arrested and detained by the East Java Regional Police on June 23, 2026. ST faces charges under the Child Protection Law and the Criminal Code. The charges include Articles 81 in conjunction with Article 76D, and Article 82 in conjunction with Article 76E of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection, as well as Articles 473 Paragraph (2) Letter b and 415 Letter b of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code. The potential sentence is five to 15 years imprisonment, with an additional one-third of the principal sentence due to aggravating factors. Lingga Mahawan, Head of the UPTD PPA DP3A Surabaya, stated that psychological and health services are being provided to the victim. Regarding the fetus, which is the result of incest and carries a high risk of fetal abnormalities, Mahawan said the matter would be coordinated with the Social Services. While the current condition of the fetus and the victim is healthy, future arrangements for the baby, whether raised by the family or placed in an orphanage, are under discussion.
