Vietnam Charts New National Development Model Focused on Self-Reliance and Innovation

Vietnam's Communist Party has established a roadmap for renewing its national development model. This new model centers on "self-reliance, innovation, human-centricity, sustainability, and global integration," with the "people" at the core of development. Science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence (AI) are designated as the main drivers of growth. Concurrently, enhancing national productivity and ensuring more efficient resource allocation are positioned as core principles of this renewed development paradigm. This directive is seen as a response to the complex international landscape Vietnam navigates and the imperative for domestic economic upgrading. While state-led economic growth under the one-party system has yielded significant achievements over past decades, a qualitative shift is now demanded. Particularly, amidst strong economic ties with China, the aim is to bolster self-reliance and strengthen international competitiveness through technological innovation. Vietnam is also pursuing a roadmap for energy transition and sustainable growth, and this development model renewal will align with these ongoing efforts. It represents a new step towards balancing individual well-being with long-term national prosperity.
