Ho Chi Minh City Holds Dialogue with Businesses on Tax Policy
Ho Chi Minh City held a dialogue with businesses to address difficulties and issues in implementing tax policies. The city's tax authorities announced a policy to strengthen support for foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in fulfilling their tax obligations.
On July 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Promotion Center (ITPC), in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department, organized a dialogue conference between businesses and the city government under the theme: “Resolving difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of tax policies.” The dialogue aims to allow businesses to directly communicate their tax-related challenges to the authorities and find solutions. The city tax department specifically emphasized providing concrete guidance and support to foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises to assist them in fulfilling their tax obligations. This is important as part of efforts to attract foreign investment and improve the investment environment in Vietnam. In recent years, Vietnam's economy has achieved rapid growth. However, businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises and foreign-invested companies, often face complex tax systems and administrative procedures. This dialogue conference can be seen as an indication of the government's stance to alleviate the burden on these businesses and support smoother business operations. The city tax department is also focusing on resolving bottlenecks in tax management, and it was reported that over 63% of the year's budget revenue target has been achieved. This suggests an effort by the tax authorities to streamline tax collection operations and strengthen the fiscal base. Under Vietnam's one-party system, maintaining economic growth and improving the investment environment are crucial elements supporting the legitimacy of the government. Therefore, the government often shows a willingness to listen to the voices of businesses, including foreign investors, and improve policies. This dialogue conference can be understood within this context.
