Cambodia Participates in 8th Working Committee Meeting to Strengthen ASEAN-ROK Cultural Heritage Cooperation

Cambodia, represented by its Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Khun Phonrotana, and his colleagues, participated in the 8th Working Committee meeting on ASEAN-Republic of Korea cultural heritage cooperation. The meeting was organized by the Korea Heritage Service (KHS) in collaboration with the ASEAN Culture House (ACH) and held in Busan, Republic of Korea. The meeting, which took place on July 22, 2026, was organized within the framework of cooperation with the International Information and Network Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Asia and the Pacific (ICHCAP), under the auspices of UNESCO. The objective of the meeting was to promote mutual cultural understanding and foster sustainable development by strengthening information exchange, sharing experiences, and expanding the cooperation network between the Korea Heritage Service and the ASEAN Committee in Seoul (ACS). The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in tangible and intangible cultural heritage between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea. Key discussion points included: 1) achievements made in this sector previously, 2) the current status of joint initiatives and projects in ASEAN-Korea cultural heritage cooperation, and 3) the organization of future directions for strengthening the aforementioned cooperation. Ambassador Khun Phonrotana emphasized that this meeting serves as a significant platform for Cambodia to share experiences, enhance the capacity of relevant institutions, and explore new cooperation opportunities. He specifically highlighted the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to support the preservation, management, and dissemination of Cambodia's cultural heritage more effectively, and for the protection, preservation, and management of ASEAN-Korea cultural heritage assets.
