Substantive Cooperation Drives Vietnam-US Relations: US Professor

Ahead of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam’s attendance at the High-level General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) and bilateral activities in the US from September 20, a US expert has noted that Vietnam-US relations are being driven by substantive cooperation. Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Washington DC, Professor Piper Campbell described 2026 as an active year in Vietnam-US relations. She stated that the Vietnamese leader's overseas trips serve as opportunities to enhance the country's role in a changing world and demonstrate its constructive and responsible stance on global issues. Furthermore, the role of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs as a bridge for business ties between the two nations was also highlighted. This underscores Vietnam's efforts to deepen international engagement and strengthen economic ties, particularly with the US, as it continues its economic development. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic development. Enhancing relations with the US is strategically important for sustaining economic growth and expanding its international influence. Amidst a complex relationship with China, deepening ties with the US is also key to balancing Vietnam's foreign policy.
