Cambodia: Koh Nora Development Security Guard Apologizes, Fired for Confiscating Fruit from Boy

Following widespread criticism on social media, the administration of Cham Phnom Penh district summoned company officials on August 31st for an explanation. According to information released by the Cham Phnom Penh district administration, the incident occurred on the evening of August 30th. A young boy selling goods in the Koh Nora Development Area had four packs of fruit confiscated by a private security guard from the Koh Nora Development Company. The case was reported by multiple media outlets and social media platforms, causing significant controversy. During the explanation to the district administration on the morning of August 31st, the head of private security for the Koh Nora Development Company acknowledged the incident. He confirmed that the confiscation of fruit from the young boy, who was a mobile vendor in the Koh Nora Development Area, was indeed carried out by a private security guard of the company and was not related to the district administration's public order forces. He publicly apologized for the actions that occurred, stating they were contrary to the company's internal orders. The Koh Nora Development Company has implemented disciplinary action by dismissing the private security personnel who committed the offense, violating company internal orders. Furthermore, the Koh Nora Development Company has guaranteed to cover all costs and compensate for all damages incurred by the boy. The company has also pledged that such activities will not occur again in the future and will take responsibility before the law.
