Foreign Couple Arrested for Gold Theft in Dak Lak

A foreign couple was apprehended by police in Dak Lak province, Vietnam, approximately one hour after allegedly stealing gold jewelry worth over VND 200 million (approximately $8,000 USD) from a store and attempting to flee in a car with two accomplices. The incident occurred around 7 AM on September 15th at Tien Vien Gold Shop in Long Binh Dong Hamlet, Song Cau Ward. As the shop had just opened and had no other customers, the male suspect engaged the owner in conversation, diverting attention. Meanwhile, the female suspect secretly accessed the gold display, unlocked a ready-made lock, and stole three gold necklaces valued at approximately VND 208 million. When the owner noticed and cried out, the woman dropped the stolen gold beneath the display. The couple then fled to a white car, license plate 79A-481.80, parked across the street, where two other foreigners were waiting. The driver quickly sped away. Upon receiving the urgent alarm from the gold shop, Song Cau Ward Police coordinated with the Provincial Police's Traffic Police Department and requested assistance from Xuan Loc Commune Police for the pursuit. Around 8 AM the same day, the two suspects, along with the two other foreigners, were intercepted and arrested on National Highway 1D, in the area bordering Gia Lai province, about 40 km from the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the suspects and are currently taking their statements. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding criminal activities by foreigners within Vietnam.
