Mekong River Flood: Damage Assessment Underway in Tboung Khmum Province
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, led by Deputy Secretary of State Ly Sino, conducted an on-site inspection of the Mekong River flood situation in Tboung Khmum and Kroch Chhmar districts, Tboung Khmum Province. Assessments covered concrete roads, rice fields, riverbank erosion, and dam safety.
Phnom Penh, September 16, 2026 – Ly Sino, Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, along with his technical team, conducted an on-site inspection of the Mekong River flood situation in the Tboung Khmum and Kroch Chhmar districts of Tboung Khmum Province on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The Deputy Secretary of State and his team inspected four key locations: 1. The concrete road in Chirouth 1 Commune to assess the impact and damage caused by the floodwaters. 2. Rice fields in Kroch Chhmar and Svay Khleang communes to evaluate the situation and its effects. 3. The eroding riverbank at the border of Pors 1 and Roka Knar communes (near the solar water pump station) to assess risks and impacts. 4. The status of the Tboung Dam in Chhuk Commune, Kroch Chhmar District, to monitor safety amidst rising floodwaters. This inspection is a crucial step in understanding the flood's impact on the Mekong River basin and formulating mitigation strategies.
