PHNOM PENH, July 14, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Japan have reaffirmed their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a farewell meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and outgoing Japanese ambassador Ueno Atsushi, the foreign ministry said Tuesday. Prak Sokhonn received Ueno on July 13 at the ministry, congratulating him on the completion of his tenure and thanking him for his role in advancing bilateral ties. He cited progress in political, economic, defence and educational cooperation, as well as people‑to‑people exchanges. The minister praised Japan’s Official Development Assistance projects and Ueno’s efforts in facilitating high‑level visits, including Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official trip to Tokyo in May 2025. He said the ambassador’s tenure had helped deepen trust and broaden cooperation across multiple sectors. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, agreeing that the partnership should expand into new areas to benefit both countries.
