Air Cambodia to Introduce 10 Chinese-Made C909 Aircraft by Year-End

The Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation (SSCA) and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation in the civil aviation sector. Concurrently, Air Cambodia (K6), the national airline, has also signed an agreement to purchase C909 aircraft from COMAC. The signing ceremony took place on July 17, 2026, at COMAC's headquarters in Shanghai, with Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister of State attached to the SSCA, and Mr. He Dongfeng, Chairman of COMAC, as witnesses and signatories. According to the press release, this cooperation will contribute to strengthening Cambodia's civil aviation sector through technology transfer, human resource training, aircraft maintenance capability development, and technical support. It will also help enhance Air Cambodia's capacity to expand its operations, increase air connectivity, and boost Cambodia's competitiveness in the region. The agreement is described as a new achievement in strengthening cooperation between Cambodia and China under the framework of the "Ironclad Friendship," "Diamond Cooperation," and the "Belt and Road" initiative. Simultaneously, Cambodia will become the first country to deploy Chinese-made C909 aircraft for its national airline's operations. Under the plan, Air Cambodia intends to introduce 10 C909 aircraft over a five-year period, starting from the end of 2026. The SSCA considers this achievement a significant step towards elevating Cambodia's civil aviation standards, expanding international air connectivity, and reinforcing cooperative relations with China.
