Thailand Emerges as New Study Destination for Indonesian Students

The interest of Indonesian students in pursuing education abroad continues to show a positive trend, with Thailand emerging as a notable destination. Factors contributing to this growing interest include the availability of international programs, a multicultural learning environment, and geographical proximity to Indonesia. Data from the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) World indicates that by 2025, an estimated 1,155 Indonesian students will be studying in Thailand. This figure highlights the increasing appeal of neighboring countries for educational pursuits and the strengthening educational ties between Indonesia and Thailand. Educational institutions in Thailand are actively fostering international cooperation with universities and institutions in Indonesia. This collaboration is expected to create more opportunities for students to engage in international programs, student exchanges, and academic development across borders. To further solidify these educational relationships, the "Business Delegation for Education Services in Indonesia 2026" is scheduled to take place from August 18-20, 2026. This event aims to facilitate inter-institutional collaboration in education and also offers sessions accessible to the general public for gaining information about studying in Thailand. Mrs. Hataichanok Sivara, Director of the Thai Trade Center Jakarta, under the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, stated that this initiative underscores Thailand's commitment to expanding regional cooperation beyond trade and investment into human resource development. "Education is a long-term investment that can strengthen relationships between communities and open up more opportunities for collaboration in the future. We hope that the Business Delegation for Education Services in Indonesia 2026 can be a bridge that connects more Indonesian talents with quality and international standard Thai educational institutions," she said. The three-day event will include agendas focused on inter-institutional collaboration on the first day. The second day features an open session for prospective students, parents, and the public interested in Thailand's higher education system. The final day involves visits to Indonesian universities to strengthen academic networks. Fifteen Thai universities and educational institutions will participate, offering a range of fields including engineering, science, technology, health, education, tourism, and business, with numerous international programs tailored for students from various countries. The public sessions will provide information on academic program choices, admission requirements for international students, and opportunities for student exchange programs. Direct consultation sessions with university representatives will allow prospective students to gain a deeper understanding of the registration process and academic life in Thailand. The series of events will also include talk shows with inspirational speakers sharing their experiences on international education, studying abroad, and career development in a global context. Forums like these offer students and parents direct access to information from educational institutions and provide an overview of the diverse study options available within the ASEAN region. In an era of increasing demand for global competence, access to international educational information is considered a crucial factor in helping prospective students determine their educational paths.
