Vietnam Emphasizes Cultivating Patriotism, Focusing on Intergenerational Transmission

In Vietnam, patriotism is a steadfast spiritual value nurtured throughout history and passed down through generations. It serves as a powerful source of strength enabling the nation to overcome harsh challenges, unite in struggle to protect independence and sovereignty, preserve cultural identity, and jointly build the country. This cultivation of patriotism is positioned as a crucial policy objective under the Vietnamese Communist Party's rule, particularly for maintaining and strengthening national unity and loyalty. Specific initiatives include promoting affection for the nation's seas and islands, transmitting historical values in the digital age, and efforts to awaken patriotism in the younger generation. Crucially, the inheritance of patriotism by the next generation is deemed vital for protecting the "ideological foundation" in contemporary Vietnam. This addresses the challenge of how to maintain and instill core national values in young people who are increasingly exposed to external influences and diverse viewpoints amidst rapid economic growth and globalization. Within Vietnam's one-party system, national unity and loyalty are considered indispensable elements for promoting social stability and economic development. Consequently, patriotic education and practice are actively pursued through the education system and media. This can be seen as part of a strategy to maintain the nation's spiritual cohesion as Vietnam continues its economic growth while facing challenges such as complex relations with China and domestic socio-economic disparities.
