Indonesia Proposes Broadcasting Media Involvement for Successful 2026 Economic Census

A member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), part of the KPI, has proposed that the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) involve broadcasting media to ensure the success of the upcoming 2026 Economic Census. This proposal stems from the recognition of the critical importance of the economic census in understanding the actual state of the national economy. Data collected through the census serves as the foundation for government policy-making, economic forecasting, and planning aimed at improving the lives of citizens. However, challenges in thorough public notification and effective information dissemination have been pointed out in past censuses. Especially in Indonesia, with its vast geography, it can be difficult to effectively communicate the importance and participation methods of the census to all citizens due to geographical constraints and information disparities. The KPI believes that by leveraging the extensive reach and high public trust of broadcasting media such as television and radio, information about the census can be delivered to a wider audience, encouraging participation. This is expected to improve the accuracy of the census and enable the calculation of economic indicators that better reflect reality. The BPS is expected to consider methods and specific cooperation details with broadcasting media following this proposal. Diversifying information dissemination channels will be key to the success of the economic census, which requires the cooperation of every citizen.
