On the afternoon of September 2, 2025, Lam was beaten again by his father for not bringing back enough money from selling lottery tickets. Two days later, after finishing his sales, the boy, afraid to return home, wandered and slept under the stairs of Cai Lay Regional General Hospital. Hospital staff discovered the distressed boy with no accompanying adult and reported the incident to the Cai Lậy ward police. Based on Lam's testimony, the investigative agency identified and arrested Hoang. Medical examination confirmed Lam suffered 7% health impairment. The victim's name has been changed for privacy.
