National Road 48 (Sre Ambel-Koh Kong) is functioning as an extremely important and strategic artery for Cambodia's economy, commerce, logistics, and tourism, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on August 2, 2026. The ministry highlighted that this road serves as an "economic artery" that enhances the economic potential of Cambodia, particularly Koh Kong province. It aims to facilitate smooth connectivity within the national transportation network and strengthen the link to the Sihanoukville deep-water port, thereby promoting trade, investment, and the transportation of agricultural and agro-industrial products more efficiently, rapidly, and at a lower cost. The road quality improvement project spans over 148 kilometers, from Sre Ambel to Khemarak Phoumin City in Koh Kong province. The construction was officially completed on April 22, 2025.
