PNP Probes Cops for Illegal Gun Sales, Links to Criminal Network

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is tracing the origin of the firearms allegedly sold illegally by two Caloocan City police officers to determine whether they are linked to a larger criminal network. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered a ballistics examination of firearms seized from the suspects — identified as He said the PNP's Directorate for Internal Affairs Service (IAS) and the Caloocan City police were already investigating the two suspects for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of firearms. "We are committed to ensuring that our police officers are honest and disciplined, and we will not tolerate any form of corruption or illegal activity within the organization," Nartatez said. He added that the PNP would also conduct a thorough investigation into the possible involvement of other police personnel in the illegal sale of firearms. "We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of justice and in our efforts to rid our police force of scalawags," Nartatez said.
