Vietnam's Lang Co Bay Seeks to Overcome Development Lag, Chart New Growth

Lang Co Bay, located in the southern part of Hue City in central Vietnam, was admitted to the "World's Most Beautiful Bays Club" in 2009, but its development has not yet lived up to its potential. The area was once a vibrant hub and a promising location for resort development, attracting numerous investors. However, many development projects have been delayed or halted due to various factors, including economic downturns, marine pollution incidents, the COVID-19 pandemic, difficulties in fundraising, land acquisition issues, and the limited capacity of some investors. Local residents lament the loss of past vibrancy and the impact on their livelihoods due to the decline in tourists. In response, the Vietnamese government approved a revised master plan for the Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone up to 2045 on December 26, 2024. This revision provides a new framework for regional development, aiming to strengthen infrastructure (transportation, power, water, environmental treatment, tourism support), simplify administrative procedures, and attract strategic investors. Hue City positions the Lang Co Bay area as a crucial growth pole for the city, focusing on ports, logistics, tourism, and coastal urban development. It is expected that Lang Co Bay, Lap An Lagoon, Bach Ma National Park, and surrounding fishing villages will be developed into a large-scale integrated marine and coastal park, transforming it from a mere transit point into an attractive destination that encourages longer stays.
