Vietnam Aims for Sustainable Agricultural Development Through Cooperative-Led Production Chains

In Vietnam, the formation of production chains centered around cooperatives is considered an extremely important solution for promoting the development of a sustainable agricultural economy. This approach aims to facilitate the accumulation and concentration of agricultural land, enable the mobilization of social resources, and effectively utilize local labor. Specifically, close cooperation between enterprises, cooperatives, and farmers is indispensable for enhancing the added value of agricultural products. Cooperatives play a "core" role in connecting enterprises and farmers, supporting the production of high-quality agricultural products that meet market demands. This is expected to improve the competitiveness of agricultural products and stabilize farmers' incomes. Furthermore, the linkage between cooperatives and enterprises is a crucial means to further increase the added value of agricultural products. Through the introduction of the latest technologies and thorough quality control, the aim is to enhance the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market. Promoting digital transformation (DX) will also be key to optimizing this entire value chain and strengthening international competitiveness. The Communist Party of Vietnam places importance on the role of cooperatives in the agricultural sector and has a policy to support their organizational strengthening and functional expansion. This is part of the strategy to address the dual challenges of improving living standards in rural areas and ensuring food security as Vietnam continues its economic growth. Under the single-party system, such state-led economic policies tend to be implemented rapidly and broadly.
