The Philippines has secured about P8 billion in investment pledges from Canadian information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) companies, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced. Companies that participated in the Philippine delegation's roundtable on July 3 in Canada included BlackBerry, CGI, Everise, IntouchCX, Manulife, NQX, OpenText, Sun Life, and TELUS. "The unveiled investment plans aim to create quality jobs, accelerate digital transformation, and strengthen the country’s position as a trusted global technology hub," said Trade Secretary Maria Cristina A. Roque. She added that deepening engagement with Canadian companies opens more doors for investments, technology partnerships, and quality jobs for Filipinos in the IT-BPM and digital services sectors. Ms. Roque noted that the Philippine workforce is evolving beyond back-end capabilities to become a strategic partner for global enterprises requiring skilled talent and AI-related operations. The DTI highlighted that elements contributing to a stable and predictable business environment for investors include the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises to Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy Act (CREATE Act), the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code, and Executive Order No. 18 establishing Green Lanes for Strategic Investments. "Our competitive edge is not technology alone — it is this robust, supportive ecosystem combined with world-class Filipino talent," Ms. Roque emphasized. The Philippine digital economy accounted for 9.8% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. Furthermore, a 2025 report by Google, Temasek Holdings, and Bain & Co. forecasts that the Philippine digital economy could generate between $70 billion and $140 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) by 2030.
