NBI Probes Potential Misuse of Substandard Steel in Flood Control Projects

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is looking into the possibility that the substandard and radioactive steel products from a raided metal plant in Pampanga have also been used in the government’s flood control projects. NBI Director Melvin Matibag said on Tuesday nationwide test buys conducted by the bureau across the country. The plant was raided on suspicion of manufacturing and selling steel products that did not meet standards. The NBI is trying to determine if these products were diverted to infrastructure projects across the country, particularly flood control initiatives. Director Matibag indicated that further investigations would proceed while awaiting the results of the tests.
