Vietnam Unveils Methods to Track New ID Card and Passport Application Status

Vietnam's government has introduced new methods for citizens to easily track the progress of their applications for new national identification cards (căn cước), passports, and permanent residency registrations. This marks a significant step towards enhancing the transparency and efficiency of administrative services. Previously, the completion timelines for these procedures were often unclear, leading to public anxiety and an increased volume of inquiries to administrative agencies. The newly released tracking methods are expected to allow applicants to check their status in near real-time by entering their application number or other relevant details via online platforms. This initiative is positioned as part of the digital transformation (DX) promoted by the Communist Party of Vietnam. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes the digitalization of administrative services as it continues its economic growth. Specifically, speeding up and simplifying procedures related to identity documents and passports, which are directly linked to citizens' lives, is expected to significantly contribute to improving public satisfaction.
