Lt. Gen. Michael Logico Assumes Command as New PMA Superintendent

Lieutenant General Michael G. Logico has been appointed the 86th Superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), the country’s premier military academy, as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) continues its modernization and leadership development efforts. Logico officially assumed office on July 22 during a change of command ceremony presided over by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete. A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy “MAALAB” Class of 1993, Logico previously served as commander of the Philippine Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the Army’s primary institution for education, training, and doctrine development. Throughout his career, he has held key positions focused on military education, doctrine development, joint training, and special operations. According to the AFP and the Philippine Army, Logico has played a significant role in strengthening military education and developing concepts and operational doctrine for the armed forces. Logico also served as Director of the Joint and Combined Training Center under the AFP Education, Training and Doctrine Command, where he oversaw the planning and conduct of joint military exercises. He also served as Executive Agent for the annual AFP Joint Exercise DAGITPA (Dagat, Langit at Lupa) and the Philippines-United States Exercise Balikatan, two of the military’s major training exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability and operational readiness with allied forces. In addition, Logico headed the AFP Wargaming Center at the AFP Command and General Staff College, where he helped develop military planning, operational concepts, and strategic decision-making through simulation and doctrine-based exercises. Logico has likewise been associated with the AFP’s capability development and modernization initiatives, particularly in advancing joint operations, strategic planning, and territorial defense through training and doctrine. Beyond his military credentials, Logico earned a Master in Public Management from Ateneo de Manila University, a Master of Arts in Development and Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines, and a Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines. His promotion to the rank of lieutenant general was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments in 2024. As PMA superintendent, Logico will oversee the education, military training, and character formation of cadets who will become future officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. During the change of command ceremony, Nafarrete underscored the academy’s role in shaping the country’s future military leaders. “The future of the Armed Forces begins within these halls. Therefore, every lesson taught, every standard enforced, and the values instilled will shape the leaders who will command our units, protect our sovereignty, and uphold the trust of the Filipino people,” he said.
