Motorcyclist Threatened, Key Taken Amid Iglesia Ni Cristo Rally

A motorcyclist in the Philippines was allegedly threatened and had his motorcycle key confiscated by members of the religious organization Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) after attempting to pass through a rally they were holding. The incident came to light on Wednesday, June 30, when a Reddit user shared a video of the confrontation. The footage showed the rider expressing frustration after claiming his motorcycle key had been taken by rallyists. "I am also a person living here in the Philippines, why am I being treated like this?" the rider exclaimed. In response, an individual, presumably a rallyist, retorted with a threatening remark, "Do you want to die?" A police officer present at the scene appeared to advise the rider to "not provoke too much." The Reddit post garnered significant attention, with many users expressing sympathy for the rider and questioning the police's response. The INC rally was held to express support for Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing plunder charges. The rally took place along EDSA on Tuesday without a permit, causing severe traffic congestion that disrupted the commutes of many. Marcoleta is accused of failing to declare P75 million in campaign donations received during his senatorial run. State prosecutors noted the amount was not included in his Statement of Liabilities, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) and was declared for tax purposes only in December 2025, suggesting a potential intent to conceal. Marcoleta, however, denies any wrongdoing and claims the allegations are linked to his previous investigations into a flood control scandal. An INC spokesperson stated that they would not cease their pursuit of justice for Senator Marcoleta, even if he were imprisoned, and criticized the situation as "selective justice" and a "trampling of justice." The INC had secured a permit for a second day of their rally on Wednesday, July 1.
