Vietnam Focuses on Cultural Identity, Sovereignty in Digital Space

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has stressed the need to address bottlenecks hindering the transformation of culture into an endogenous resource, soft power, and a driver of national development. He noted that the appeal and reach of positive cultural values in the digital environment have yet to keep pace with the rapid growth of digital platforms and content. In response, the Vietnamese government is focusing on fostering the cultural industry with concrete measures. For instance, the "Ha Long Carnaval 2026" affirms the mindset of developing the cultural industry, poised to symbolize the drive for cultural promotion. Furthermore, a draft resolution is being considered to include budget allocations and tax incentives aimed at supercharging the cultural industry. This is expected to boost investment in the sector and enhance its economic and social contributions. Additionally, in Da Nang, "Resolution 80" paves the way for a breakthrough in the cultural industry, highlighting the importance of regional cultural promotion strategies. Under its one-party system, Vietnam has achieved economic growth led by the state. In recent years, the country has also recognized the importance of culture as soft power and is exploring its utilization. Particularly in its relationship with China, while considering historical and cultural influences, establishing a distinct Vietnamese cultural identity in the digital space is a strategic imperative to enhance Vietnam's presence on the international stage.
