Cambodia's Stock Market Hits Four-Year High on Trading Surge
Cambodia's stock market saw its index hit a four-year high in August, with average daily trading value surging 300%. Investor participation also reached a record, reflecting positive company fundamentals and efforts to develop the capital market.
PHNOM PENH, Sept. 3, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s stock market recorded a sharp rise in trading activity and investor participation in August, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index reaching its highest level in more than four years and average daily trading value surging 300% from earlier in 2026, official data showed Thursday. The CSX Index closed August at 541.02, up 18% during the month and nearly 28% over the first eight months of the year. On August 26, the index hit 560.09, its highest level since March 2022. Trading liquidity strengthened significantly. Average daily trading value reached KHR3.175 billion, or almost US$800,000, representing a three‑fold increase compared with the average recorded during the first seven months of 2026. The strong performance came despite the end of the annual dividend payout season. The CSX attributed momentum to attractive share prices relative to companies’ fundamentals, historically strong dividend yields and positive second‑quarter results reported by listed firms. Institutional investors also contributed to liquidity, helping boost confidence and supporting broader growth potential. Investor participation set a record in August, with 7,901 active investors — defined as those executing at least one trade — the highest number ever recorded. At the same time, 2,006 new trading accounts were opened, underscoring growing public interest in equity investment and opportunities to generate additional income. Officials said the surge in participation reflects Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to develop its capital market as a source of financing for businesses. The CSX describes its role as providing a transparent trading environment and helping domestic companies access capital to expand operations. The exchange said the latest figures demonstrate the resilient growth potential of Cambodia’s capital market, with expanding investor participation providing a foundation to broaden services, develop new financial products and modernize technology infrastructure to meet the needs of a wider range of investors.
