Cambodia's Fresh Durian Exports to China Surge Amid New Laos Trade Route

Mr. Khim Finan, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, recently presided over the inauguration ceremony for the first shipment of fresh durian from Cambodia to the Chinese market. The consignment, comprising three containers totaling over 50 tons from Pechenda Fruit Production Co., Ltd., was transported via land routes passing through Laos. This event highlights a new achievement stemming from the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts to facilitate market access and establish transport routes through Laos for the export of Cambodian fresh durian to China. As of July 24, 2026, Cambodia's total export volume of fresh durian to China reached 5,738.24 tons, representing a nearly 40-fold increase compared to the total volume exported in 2025. This surge in durian exports signifies a crucial step for Cambodia's agricultural sector in tapping into the Chinese market demand. The diversification of logistics routes, particularly through cooperation with Laos, appears to be a key driver behind this rapid export growth. The Cambodian government is committed to expanding export markets for its agricultural products, and the success of durian exports is expected to provide momentum for future exports of other agricultural commodities.
