Cambodia and Azerbaijan Deepen Parliamentary Cooperation

AKP Phnom Penh, August 29, 2026 -- Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, held a video conference with H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at his residence in Takhmao town, Kandal province, on Aug. 29. During the conversation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure at speaking with Speaker Gafarova again and thanked her for sending Azerbaijani parliamentarians to participate in the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2), successfully hosted by Cambodia from Aug. 26 to 28. Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke highly of the positive relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Azerbaijan and recalled his previous visits to the country. For her part, Speaker Gafarova thanked Samdech Techo Hun Sen for the opportunity to hold the video conference and congratulated Cambodia on the successful hosting of ISC-2. She also invited Samdech Techo Hun Sen to pay a visit to Azerbaijan in the future and requested Cambodia’s support for her candidacy for President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), with the election scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026. Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the invitation and said he would consider a suitable time to visit Azerbaijan again. Regarding Speaker Gafarova’s request for support for her IPU presidency bid, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia would give careful consideration to the request and would be favourably disposed towards it.
