Angkor Park Sees Decline in Foreign Tourists and Ticket Revenue
The famed Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia saw a 29.07% decrease in foreign tourist arrivals and a 27.43% drop in ticket revenue during the first eight months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. August alone also showed a decline.
AKP Phnom Penh, September 2, 2026 -- Some 474,993 foreign tourists visited the famed Angkor Archaeological Park between January and August this year, down 29.07 percent compared to the same period in 2025, according to a report from the state-owned Angkor Enterprise. The Angkor Archaeological Park generated over US$22.5 million from ticket sales in the first eight months of 2026, down 27.43 percent compared to the same period last year, the source pointed out. In August alone, the ancient site received 46,770 foreign tourists, generating US$2.21 million in revenue, down 8.02 percent and 8.47 percent, respectively, compared to the same month last year, the report stated. Located in Siem Reap province in northwest Cambodia, the 401-square-kilometre Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries. Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992, the park continues to be the most visited and iconic tourist attraction in the country. By Phal Sophanith
