Cambodia Promotes Northeast Ecotourism for Green Season Visitors

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia is stepping up efforts to promote its northeastern region as an ecotourism destination during the Green Season, aiming to attract more visitors while spreading tourism income beyond traditional hubs, officials said Tuesday. The Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the Stung Treng Provincial Administration, will host the “Green Season Tourism Event 2026” on August 8–9 at Techo Thipadei Park in front of the provincial hall. The event is part of the “Visit Cambodia During Green Season 2026” campaign, which encourages travel during the May‑to‑October period and seeks to distribute visitor flows more evenly across the year. The ministry said the initiative aims to showcase the tourism potential of Cambodia’s northeast while stimulating local economies, creating jobs and generating direct income for communities. Exhibitions will feature local food, community products, wild fruits, seasonal goods and processed items. A forum on “Ecotourism Potential in the Northeastern Region” will explore opportunities to expand nature‑based tourism. Another highlight will be a public sporting event under the theme “Run for the Mekong Dolphins,” linking tourism promotion with one of the Mekong’s distinctive wildlife attractions. Cultural performances and a concert will also be staged. The Ministry said the push reflects Cambodia’s broader strategy to diversify tourism beyond established destinations and encourage community‑based experiences. By promoting northeastern Cambodia during the quieter travel season, authorities hope to create greater economic opportunities while strengthening the country’s appeal as a year‑round destination.
