Cambodian Red Cross Donates $100,000 to China for Disaster Relief

Phnom Penh – On the morning of September 16, 2026, the Cambodian Red Cross symbolically handed over a donation of $100,000 USD to the Red Cross Society of China, intended for humanitarian operations in response to natural disasters occurring in China. The donation was made under the auspices of Her Majesty the Queen Mother, as Honorary President, and presided over by Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross. The symbolic handover ceremony took place at the Chinese Embassy, attended by H.E. Ms. Pum Chanty, Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross, and H.E. Mr. Wang Wenbin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Cambodia. The actual transfer of funds will be processed through banking procedures. This marks the second time the Cambodian Red Cross has provided $100,000 USD in humanitarian aid to the Red Cross Society of China, with the first donation occurring in August 2026. Additionally, the Cambodian Red Cross has contributed another $100,000 USD through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the humanitarian operations of the Nepal Red Cross in response to flood disasters in the Nepal-China border region. During the handover ceremony, H.E. Ms. Pum Chanty conveyed profound greetings and sentiments from Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen to the Chinese people affected by natural disasters. She emphasized that while the amount of aid from the Cambodian Red Cross may not be substantial, it represents the deep sympathy, compassion, and solidarity of Samdech Kittipritbandit and the Cambodian people with their Chinese counterparts. In response, H.E. Mr. Wang Wenbin expressed his deep gratitude, noting that the Cambodian Red Cross had supported the Chinese people twice within just over two months. He informed that the first donation was publicly disseminated within China and received widespread praise and support from the Chinese public. The Chinese Ambassador also recalled past humanitarian activities, including personal visits by embassy representatives to provide modest financial assistance (30,000 Riel per family) to flood victims in Tbong Khmum province, Cambodia. He stressed, "What is important is not the amount of money, but the spirit, humanitarian values, and the willingness to help each other in times of hardship." Furthermore, the Secretary General of the Cambodian Red Cross expressed the organization's interest in cooperating with the Guangxi branch of the Red Cross Society of China to provide training and enhance the capacity of Cambodian Red Cross officials in first aid. Currently, the Cambodian Red Cross has a network in all 25 provinces and municipalities and plays a crucial role in educating and training the public in this skill. In response, the Ambassador expressed his full support and willingness to facilitate this training cooperation. In conclusion, the Chinese Ambassador reiterated that the Chinese Embassy is always ready to assist and cooperate with the Cambodian Red Cross, and will strive to share and support any necessary needs requested by the Cambodian Red Cross to the best of its ability.
