Thailand: Train Station Security Drills Enhance Public Safety Awareness

Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (EBM) and Northern Bangkok Monorail Company Limited (NBM), two major railway operators in Thailand, have conducted an emergency response training for their staff on how to handle suspicious objects found within train stations. This training aims to enhance the defense capabilities of the railway network against terrorism and other threats, with the utmost priority on passenger safety. In recent years, as the threat of terrorism has increased globally, the safety measures for public transportation have become an urgent issue. In Thailand, where many citizens use the railway daily, ensuring their safety is essential for the stability of society as a whole. This training focused on familiarizing station staff and security personnel with the entire process, including initial response upon discovering a suspicious object, reporting procedures, passenger evacuation guidance, and coordination with relevant agencies. Specifically, it is understood that simulations covered methods for identifying suspicious objects based on their type, containment measures, and swift handover to specialized teams. The training also aims to improve the ability of station staff to make calm and accurate judgments, acquiring practical skills to ensure passenger safety by minimizing chaos in the event of an emergency. Furthermore, such training is expected to contribute to raising public awareness regarding the handling of suspicious objects. The very act of conducting training can heighten interest in safety in public spaces and encourage individual citizens to pay attention to their surroundings and actively report any suspicious findings. EBM and NBM plan to further enhance the safety of Thailand's railway network through regular training and awareness campaigns.
