Cambodia Breaks Ground for Vipassana Meditation Center to Foster Well-being

On the morning of July 22, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Vipassana meditation center was held in Okar Khop village, Krang Lva commune, Samaki Mean Chey district, Kampong Chhnang province. The ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service, along with His Excellency Dr. Uk Rabun, Minister and Chairman of the Royal Government Working Group for Kampong Chhnang Province, and many other high-ranking officials. The construction of this Vipassana meditation center is a significant contribution to promoting Buddhism and enhancing the mental education of all citizens. Vipassana is a technique for training the mind and emotions to understand the reality of life through mindful observation, which helps increase understanding and mental relaxation. The practice of this method is crucial for the mental education of both monks and laypeople, leading to happiness, prosperity, and success in work. The ceremony was organized in accordance with traditional Buddhist customs and Khmer traditions, with prayers offered to the local deities for the safety and success of the construction. The center will serve as a place for mental education, meditation practice, and the development of virtue, morality, and wisdom for monks and the general Buddhist community, contributing to the promotion of mental well-being and a peaceful, harmonious life. On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and the delegation of leaders also planted a Bodhi tree brought from Sri Lanka, as a sign of respect for the Buddha and a symbol of happiness, peace, and prosperity in life. The Vipassana meditation center is planned to be built on nearly 10 hectares of land.
