Fact-Checking Debunks Hoax Photos of Former President Jokowi Reading Books
Hoax photos depicting former Indonesian President Joko Widodo reading various books have repeatedly gone viral on social media. Liputan6.com's fact-checking team has confirmed multiple instances of fabricated images, including those supposedly showing him reading books like 'Islam Ala Prabowo' and 'Dahsyatnya Siksa Kubur,' as well as Doraemon comics.
Hoax photos alleging former Indonesian President Joko Widodo reading various books have repeatedly gone viral on social media and messaging applications. Liputan6.com's fact-checking team has confirmed that these images are indeed misinformation. Specifically, a photo circulating on Facebook on September 7, 2026, claimed to show former President Jokowi reading a book titled 'Islam Ala Prabowo.' The post included a caption stating, "President Jokowi is reading a book on Islam by Prabowo Subianto. What is the content like? Is it already in school libraries so people can read about Prabowo's Islam?" Furthermore, on April 13, 2021, a photo emerged on Facebook alleging that President Jokowi was seriously reading a Doraemon comic. This image was posted with the caption, "A movement to encourage reading," and garnered significant engagement and comments. Another instance, on November 14, 2025, involved a photo claiming former President Jokowi was reading a book titled 'Dahsyatnya Siksa Kubur' (The Terrifying Punishment of the Grave). This image was accompanied by unrelated text, such as, "As long as Mulyono cannot show his original diploma, no one can become a SUSPECT. Logically, how can someone else be made a suspect for stealing a motorcycle when the stolen motorcycle itself is missing?" Liputan6.com, recognizing that fighting misinformation is a fight against ignorance, established the 'Cek Fakta Liputan6.com' channel in 2018 to promote media literacy.
