Multi-vehicle Collision Causes 4km Traffic Jam on HCMC-Long Thanh Expressway

A multi-vehicle collision involving three 7-seater cars occurred on Long Thanh Bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway around 3:30 PM on September 6th. The accident blocked one lane of the bridge, severely disrupting traffic flow from provinces like Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau towards Ho Chi Minh City. The incident began when a 7-seater car, descending the slope of Long Thanh Bridge, rear-ended the vehicle in front. Subsequent vehicles also collided, creating a chain reaction. With only two lanes on Long Thanh Bridge, the three damaged cars occupied one lane, forcing all vehicles to slow down significantly. This resulted in a traffic jam extending approximately 4 km, from Long Thanh Bridge to the Long Phuoc toll station. Witnesses reported that vehicles were tightly packed from the area past the Long Phuoc toll station, moving only a few meters at a time. The damaged vehicles were towed to the vicinity of the Long Phuoc toll station around 4:30 PM for processing, clearing the scene. Traffic police also directed vehicles from National Highway 51 to National Highway 1 for diversion towards Ho Chi Minh City. The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is 55 km long, connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province. It currently has four lanes but experiences chronic congestion during weekends and holidays, with particular severity near Long Thanh Bridge. Plans are underway to expand the section within Ho Chi Minh City from four to eight lanes.
