Motorists Warned of Landslides, Flooding on Iloilo-Antique Roads

ILOILO CITY —Authorities on Friday urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when traveling between Iloilo and Antique as heavy rains triggered landslide threats, flooding and road damage along major routes connecting the two provinces. The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) advised commuters and motorists to avoid the Iloilo-Antique Road via Bukid due to the risk of recurring landslides caused by continuous rainfall. As an alternative, the PDRRMC recommended using the Iloilo-Antique Coastal Road, although travel remains limited after floodwaters submerged a section of the highway in Barangay Calala, Hamtic. Only sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are currently advised to pass through the flooded area. Authorities also warned motorists of a damaged road shoulder in Barangay Supa after strong floodwaters eroded part of the roadside, creating a hazardous void beside the pavement. The PDRRMC said it has coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the provincial engineering office to install temporary warning signs while repair work is being arranged. Motorists and pedestrians were advised to remain alert and to slow down when passing through the affected section in Barangay Supa until the damaged shoulder is repaired. The PDRRMC urged all travelers to monitor official advisories, cooperate with traffic authorities, and avoid unnecessary travel while adverse weather conditions persist./dp
