Vietnam Welcomes Over 13.9 Million Foreign Visitors in Seven Months
Vietnam welcomed over 13.9 million foreign visitors from January to July this year, marking a significant rebound. This surge indicates the success of diversified tourism offerings and enhanced international promotion, placing the country on track to meet its annual target.
Vietnam welcomed over 13.9 million foreign visitors in the first seven months of this year, reaching a new record high for the period and placing the country well on track to achieve its 2026 target of 25 million foreign arrivals. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reported a significant year-on-year increase in international arrivals during this period. In the first six months alone, the country welcomed 12.3 million foreign visitors, a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, a trend that has continued into July. Tourism revenue has also seen a substantial boost. From January to July, total tourism revenue surged by 55.3% to nearly VND 237.5 trillion (US$9.01 billion), achieving 72% of the year's target. Vietnam's tourism sector is increasingly focusing on diversified, experience-driven offerings beyond traditional beach resorts and natural landscapes. Hanoi's street food scene, for instance, has garnered international acclaim, while Phu Quoc Island is promoting immersive, day-long experiences. Da Nang is recognized for its harmonious blend of beaches, vibrant lifestyle, and rich culinary culture. Regional cooperation is also being strengthened. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), advocates for developing integrated tourism routes linking major destinations like Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Ninh Binh with neighboring provinces such as Hung Yen and Bac Ninh. This approach aims to enhance complementary tourism products and move away from isolated competition. In aviation, Sun Phu Quoc Airways, a subsidiary of Vietnam's Sun Group, commenced operations in October 2025, injecting new energy into the Vietnamese market during its post-pandemic recovery. The launch of new routes, such as the one to Bangkok, is expected to boost two-way tourism and attract international transit passengers. Domestically, the premium Hoa Phuong Do (Flamboyant Flower) train operating between Hanoi and Hai Phong city has been a success. Since its service began in May 2025, it has completed nearly 3,000 trips, carrying approximately 1.33 million passengers, highlighting improvements in domestic transportation infrastructure and its integration with tourism. Under its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes both economic growth and social stability, with the tourism sector serving as a key pillar. In its efforts to diversify its economy amidst complex relations with China, increased tourism is crucial for foreign exchange earnings and job creation. Source: VietnamPlus English
