Cambodia Ministry Holds 10 Meetings on Ride-Hailing Driver Grievances, Some Issues Remain Unresolved

Cambodia's Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has announced that it has held a total of 10 meetings in cooperation with relevant ministries to address the concerns and requests from drivers on ride-hailing service platforms. These meetings were conducted both as separate ministry sessions and inter-ministerial collaborations, aiming to discuss, coordinate, and find mutually acceptable solutions for all parties involved. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, emphasized that the ministry always pays close attention to the concerns and requests of all drivers. He stated, "The 10 meetings demonstrate the ministry's efforts and attention in finding practical solutions that can be accepted and ensure benefits for all relevant parties." According to the ministry, all relevant parties have agreed to accept solutions for three of the requested points. However, three other requests related to competition, pricing principles, and consumer rights have not yet reached a joint agreement. Consequently, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has forwarded the requests, meeting minutes, and related documents to the Competition Commission of Cambodia, the competent authority, for review and further action according to established procedures. The spokesperson added that the goal is to maintain a balance between the livelihoods and income of drivers, the business sustainability of companies, and the interests of consumers. In parallel, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will continue to receive concerns and requests from ride-hailing platform drivers and cooperate with ministries, competent authorities, and all relevant parties in finding appropriate solutions to ensure the benefits of all parties.
