Thai Deputy PM to Visit Malaysia for Border Security and Economic Talks

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow is scheduled to visit Malaysia from September 6 to 7. This visit aims to follow up on issues discussed during the official visit of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to Malaysia in July. The discussions will focus on border security, infrastructure development, and strengthening economic connectivity along the shared border between the two nations. Accompanying Deputy Prime Minister Sihasak will be National Intelligence Agency Director Thanut Suvarnananda, who also heads Thailand’s Peace Dialogue Panel for the Southern Border Provinces. Director Thanut will meet with his Malaysian counterparts to establish closer working-level coordination for the peace dialogue process in the southern border region. Talks are expected to cover infrastructure improvements along the Thailand-Malaysia border and measures to facilitate cross-border travel and economic activities. Discussions will also address the potential installation of additional fencing along sections of the border to aid in preventing and intercepting illegal activities. These discussions are intended to support safer border communities, improved connectivity, and increased economic opportunities on both sides by advancing security and economic development in parallel.
