Senate Elects New Chairpersons, Members for Permanent Committees

The Philippine Senate on Monday elected new chairpersons and members for several of its permanent committees. This selection signals the direction of the Senate's policy-making and legislative agenda moving forward. According to the resolutions adopted, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano moved for the election of minority senators as heads and members of various panels. Notably, Senator Mark Villar was elected as the chairperson of the Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies. Senator Imee Marcos also assumed the role of chairperson for the Committee on Cooperatives. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri moved for the election of majority senators to several committees, including the Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation, Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, Committee on Public Works, Committee on Sports, and Committee on Youth. Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian approved these motions without objection.
