Cambodia: $1.2 Million Rice Supply Contract Signed Between Agricultural Communities and Green Company

Two modern agricultural communities in Cambodia's Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces have signed a contract to supply nearly 5,000 tons of rice, valued at approximately $1.2 million, to Green Cambodia Company. According to Mr. Khim Finan, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, speaking on the morning of September 21, 2026, 349 farming households from the Preah Netr Preah Meanchey Modern Rice Agricultural Community and the Ek Phnom District Safe Rice and Rice Modern Agricultural Community have agreed to contract farming on a total of 1,517 hectares of land. The contract covers three rice varieties: Phkar Rumduol, Sen Kro Ob, and Sra'a L'ai. The pricing will be based on actual market prices, with an additional premium (incentive payment) of 30 to 60 Riel (approximately $0.007 to $0.015) per kilogram. Mr. Khim Finan emphasized that through the Ministry of Agriculture's pre-arranged market linkage facilitation, the farmer members of these modern agricultural communities will receive significant benefits, including fair prices protected from market risks, high-quality inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) at prices lower than the market, and low-interest working capital throughout the production season. This initiative is seen as part of strengthening the collaboration between producers and companies in Cambodia's agricultural sector, promoting income stabilization for farmers and modernization of agricultural production. Especially in light of recent global food price volatility, such contract farming is considered mutually beneficial, guaranteeing stable sales channels and prices for producers and a stable supply of raw materials for companies.
