Stung Treng Province Gathers Data on Tuk-Tuk Drivers to Support Social Protection Amid Fuel Price Hikes

Stung Treng Province, located in northeastern Cambodia, convened a consultative meeting on July 20, 2026, to assess the situation of tuk-tuk (known locally as 'kuyon bey') and remork (three-wheeled taxi) drivers. The gathering aimed to enhance social protection measures for these drivers who are significantly impacted by the current surge in fuel prices. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Prom Vanna, Deputy Governor of Stung Treng Province, representing H.E. Sor Soputra, Governor of Stung Treng Provincial Administration, and was attended by leaders from relevant ministries, representatives from the administration of the six districts and municipalities, and numerous other stakeholders. The objective of this data collection campaign is to gather precise and comprehensive statistics that will support the Royal Government's social protection intervention programs. This initiative is particularly crucial for providing aid to drivers who are facing economic pressure due to the escalating cost of fuel. During the meeting, Deputy Governor Prom Vanna emphasized the critical importance of collecting data and statistics on tuk-tuk and remork drivers, both within and outside the formal economic system. He stated that accurate data is essential for the government to implement targeted, correct, and timely intervention measures and social protection support, thereby alleviating the financial burden on these drivers confronting rising fuel expenses. The Deputy Governor urged the administrations of the six districts and municipalities, relevant ministries, and local authorities to enhance close and thorough cooperation, expedite the data collection process comprehensively, and ensure that no genuine driver is left out of this vital statistical survey.
