Elderly British Tourist Assaulted on Jomtien Beach; Suspect Apprehended

PATTAYA, Thailand – A 70-year-old British national was injured in an assault on Jomtien Beach on Thursday, September 3. Police have arrested a Thai man in connection with the incident. Rescue workers and Pattaya police patrol officers responded to reports of a foreign tourist being assaulted near Jomtien Soi 10. Upon arrival, officers found Anton Gilmour Wild, 70, a British national, suffering from facial injuries and swelling. Rescue workers provided first aid and transported him to the hospital for treatment. Police detained a Thai man, believed to be around 35 years old, who allegedly carried out the assault. During initial questioning, the suspect claimed the injured British man was involved in a motorcycle theft and that he had followed him to Jomtien Beach after allegedly finding evidence connected to the theft in his possession. However, police did not immediately accept the suspect's claim. The man provided inconsistent accounts and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. While officers were holding him, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed. Witnesses told police that the suspect crossed the road and approached the British man, who was sitting and talking with foreign friends on the beach. After a brief exchange, the suspect allegedly kicked the British man in the face, knocking him to the ground, before punching him again. Good Samaritans intervened and stopped the assault before notifying authorities. Police have taken the suspect to Pattaya Police Station for further questioning. Officers are investigating the full circumstances of the assault, including the suspect's claims regarding the alleged motorcycle theft, before deciding on further legal action.
