Tropical Storm Maymay Makes Landfall in Ilocos Sur

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Storm Maymay made landfall over Magsingal, Ilocos Sur at 2 a.m. Thursday, the state weather bureau said. As of 1 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) had raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over the province and other areas. Pagasa stated that Maymay was moving northwest at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour. Strong winds and heavy rainfall were expected in the areas around the landfall point, with warnings issued for potential flooding and landslides. Ilocos Sur is a major producer of rice and vegetables in the Philippines, raising concerns about damage to crops.
